MEREDITH MILLS

My Faith Story: I grew up in an evangelical Methodist church, had a few existential crises, wandered around spirituality and Buddhism for awhile and landed back on Wesleyan ground. I was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church in 2010, and have been discovering ever since how Wesleyan I really am.

My Ministry: My heart is to invite people ever deeper into the story of God. I want to surprise life-long church members with the realization that the journey of sanctification really is never-ending. I want to surprise the disenchanted and disillusioned with the realization that there is a place for them at the table. I want my whole life and ministry to point to the twin truths that God loves us and God wants us to become more than we currently are.  I'm currently privileged to serve as Senior Pastor of Westminster UMC (a normal church with lovely people) and Senior Question-Asker at Gastrochurch (a quirky table community that encourages intentional conversation about spiritual things over really good food).

What I Believe: I believe God made the world to be good. When humankind broke that original goodness, sin entered the world and affected the entire created order from the inside out. God set about to rescue his creation and his image-bearers, eventually coming in the person of Jesus. His death and resurrection broke the chains of sin, initiated a New Creation, and opened the way for all to be made whole. Through Christ, all are invited to reject the old creation within and around us, and to participate in the New Creation that God has started and is bringing to fruition.
