Juan Carlos Martinez

My faith Story: I grew up in a traditional Roman Catholic family in Mexico, where I was administered the Roman Catholic Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation. While in college, I read the Gospel According to John, and that began a process that permitted me to better understand the saving grace that is offered in Christ, helping me to joyously avail myself of assurance of salvation through the finished work of Jesus on behalf of His people.

My Ministry: I have the great privilege of being the pastor of The Woodlands Reformed Church, a church plant in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Our mission is to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. I have been ordained in the PCA since 2013, and I have served as a pastor in various churches, and as the campus minister of Reformed University Fellowship at Rice University, my alma mater.

What I Believe: I believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God and the final authority for faith and life. I affirm that there is one God in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I believe that all humanity is fallen in Adam, and is, therefore, sinful by nature and in need of salvation. I believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. I affirm that Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully man, was conceived by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man. I affirm that Jesus lived a sinless life, fulfilling the legal requirements of the Law, and that He died for our sins, and rose again for our justification. I believe that the Church is governed by Christ, and that her lawfully ordained ministers are called to boldly preach the whole counsel of God, to pray faithfully, and to rightly administer the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. I await the return of Christ, who will judge the living and the dead, and whose kingdom shall have no end.
