My Faith Story: I grew up in a Christian home where reading the Bible and attending church was always deeply valued. However as I got older I realized that I had a particular passion for studying Scripture and thinking about philosophical and theological questions as well as practical ministry, particularly with church goers questioning their beliefs. Having been in environments that value practical ministry over intellectual depth and vice versa, I have made it a purpose of mine to always balance intellectualism and practicality in my personal faith as well as in my ministries, and have recently landed in a position that allows me to do that well through teaching theology to high schoolers.

My Ministry: My current ministry is to seniors at a Christian high school where I teach theology and ethics. The year before college is such a vulnerable time for kids who have been surrounded by Christianity their whole lives. My job is to help them wrestle with big questions related to faith and life and to challenge their beliefs in a safe and controlled environment before they are thrown into the world to do it with little to no guidance. I really love what I do. I take pride in presenting them with all the various approaches to interpreting Scripture on open-handed issues, while keeping them grounded in the clear truths of the Gospel.

What I Believe: I believe in Scripture as the inspired and authoritative word of God and I hold to the early Christian creeds. Therefore I believe in the Triune God–  The Father as the creator of all things, Jesus Christ as God incarnate, and the Holy Spirit as the giver of life and comfort. The cross, resurrection, and ascension of Christ are the foundations of my faith, and my hope is in the future bodily resurrection and the reconciling of all things to God in the New Creation. And I believe that through participation in the local church with other believers, we are able to taste the firstfruits of the kingdom of God here on earth.
